Chemical Tuning of Metal Nanocatalysts Interface for ORR Electrocatalysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
A series of surface-functionalized gold nanocatalysts are synthesized. Through diazonium chemistry, calix[4]arene molecules grafted at the surface. Sharing same anchoring function and a common backbone, ligands possess distinct terminal chemical functions where length, hydrophobic nature, oxygen affinity varied. Thanks to versatility platform, this paper only focuses on molecular tuning solid/liquid interface through change tail groups while electronic effects that regulated by will be similar for all catalysts. Electrocatalytic tests demonstrate influence tails group reduction reaction performances, including efficiency, selectivity, durability. Beyond pure geometric steric effect, it is shown properties can effectively tune interactions between metallic catalyst electrolyte reactants.

We report a study of the Schottky barrier for Pb films grown on Si surfaces terminated by various metals (Ag, In, Au, and Pb) to explore the atomic-scale physics of the interface barrier and a means to control the barrier height. Electronic confinement by the Schottky barrier results in quantum well states in the Pb films, which are measured by angle-resolved photoemission. The barrier height i...

Nanosized noble metal catalysts supported on high-surface-area support are of great importance for numerous industrial chemical processes to mediate reaction pathways in heterogeneous catalysis. Control of surface area and surface energy of nanocatalysts is a key to achieving high activity and selectivity for desired products. In the past decade, new synthetic methodologies for noble metal nano...
متن کاملConstant chemical potential approach for quantum chemical calculations in electrocatalysis
In order to simulate electrochemical reactions in the framework of quantum chemical methods, density functional theory, methods can be devised that explicitly include the electrochemical potential. In this work we discuss a Grand Canonical approach in the framework of density functional theory in which fractional numbers of electrons are used to represent an open system in contact with an elect...

Ternary Pt-Au-M (M = 3d transition metal) nanoparticles show reduced OH adsorption energies and improved activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) compared to pure Pt nanoparticles, as obtained by density functional theory. The strain and ligand effects in nanoparticles are decoupled and correlated with the extended Pt(111) surface for benchmarking. The ternary metal in the core allows f...
